Police in northern Alberta have charged a Fort McMurray man in connection to the stabbing death of a woman earlier in the week.

Wood Buffalo RCMP said Kevin McLernon, 28, is facing a charge of second degree murder.

On Monday, May 19, at about 10:45 p.m., RCMP were called to a home on Ross Haven Drive in Fort McMurray, where a 36-year-old woman was suffering from an apparent stab wound.

She was taken to hospital, where she was later pronounced dead – and a 28-year-old man was taken into custody without incident.

McLernon is scheduled to appear in court Monday, May 26 in Fort McMurray, he remains in custody.
