The man in his 20s, who faced nearly a dozen charges in connection to a collision near Grande Prairie that left four teenagers dead, and one severely injured, wants to be tried by a judge alone.

A lawyer for Brenden Holubowich, 21, appeared in court in Grande Prairie Monday morning, when the request was made.

Holubowich faced eleven charges in the October collision, including four counts of impaired driving causing death, operating a motor vehicle over .08 causing death, and one count each of impaired driving causing bodily harm, operating a motor vehicle over .08 causing bodily harm, and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.

The crash occurred on October 21, on Highway 668 near Highway 40.

Five teenaged boys, Matt Deller, Vince Stover, Tanner Hildebrand, Walter Borden-Wilkins and Zak Judd were in one vehicle, were travelling on Highway 668, when the vehicle they were in was struck by a pick up truck.

Police said Holubowich fled the scene, but was arrested a short time later.

He was charged two days later.

Holubowich has been scheduled to appear in court on January 30.
