Police have laid a number of charges against a man, for his alleged role in a hit and run that left a teenaged girl dead in late 2012.

Edmonton police announced Thursday that Kenneth Raymond Didechko, 33, had been charged in connection to the collision that took place Sunday, October 14, 2012.

Officers were called to the area of 82 Street and 141 Avenue after 3 a.m. that night, after receiving reports of a hit and run involving a pedestrian.

It was reported that an 18-year-old woman had been hit by a car headed southbound on 82 Street – the vehicle fled the scene, and the teenager, identified as Faith Jackson, passed away in hospital.

Later that day, investigators found a black Dodge Charger with front-end damage, abandoned in a ditch on Fort Road – it was found to be registered to the Didechko’s employer, and police recovered it to collect evidence.

Edmonton police called the months-long investigation extensive, and a number of detectives were involved.

“Anytime an investigation of this scope is undertaken, when detailed evidence analysis is required, we must be patient and respect the process,” Acting Det. Marty McKenna said. “As a result, we are now able to provide some answers for the family of Faith Jackson.”

Didechko was arrested Thursday just before noon as he drove away from his home.

In connection to the hit and run, Didechko is facing charges of hit and run causing death, unlawfully causing bodily harm and obstruction.
