Edmonton police have laid charges against a man, after an overnight collision Friday left two people in hospital and another person dead.

Police said it’s believed that an SUV was headed the wrong way on a one-way street at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, headed westbound on 83 Avenue.

According to police, the vehicle was speeding, and crossed 109 Street before hitting another small car that had been travelling southbound.

EPS and paramedics responded to the scene, but the driver of the small car, a 40-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene – crews used the Jaws of Life to remove the passenger from the wreckage, a woman in her 30s.

She was treated, and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV was also treated and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“The other driver wasn’t too seriously injured, but it’s pretty evident that alcohol was a factor with him,” Acting Inspector Erik Johnson said at the scene.

The man was released from hospital and then arrested by police.

Now, Tyhler Kennedy Keith, 21, is facing charges of impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, refusing to provide a breath sample, dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
