A preliminary inquiry for the man charged in the death of an Edmonton toddler will begin on Monday.

Richard Suter will be facing several charges including impaired operation causing death and two counts of impaired operation causing bodily harm.

Suter was charged after a vehicle crashed through a patio at a restaurant, pinning 2-year-old Geo Mounsef under the car.

The boy died at the scene while his mother, father and younger brother suffered minor injuries.

Investigators said that the vehicle had been parked in front of the patio before the incident and that they believe Suter meant to put the car into reverse but shifted it into drive by mistake.

Suter was granted $1,000 bail in May, 2013.

The hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. in a provincial courtroom and has been scheduled to last four days.

Depending on the results of the hearing a trial date may be set.
