Sylvan Lake RCMP say alcohol was a factor in a collision that sent an 80-year-old woman to hospital.

Emergency crews responded to the two-vehicle collision on Highway 11, west of Range Road 15 around 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Officials found a Jeep Liberty upside down in the north ditch and a badly damaged GMC pickup on the south shoulder.

The driver of the Jeep, a woman from Red Deer was taken to hospital and later released.

The 35-year-old driver of the GMC was not injured but has been charged.

Anthony Richard Watts has been released from custody and will appear in Red Deer provincial court on August 23 to face charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm as well as a charge of transporting liquor in an open container.

Police said a third vehicle was hit with debris from the pickup following the initial collision but there were no injuries to occupants in that vehicle.
