A 21-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges in connection with a crash in northern Alberta that claimed the life of a man on Friday evening.

According to RCMP, at about 10 p.m. officers were called to the scene of a collision between a pickup truck and an ATV in Grovedale, located about 20 kilometres south of Grande Prairie.

Police said the 21-year-old male passenger of the ATV was pronounced dead on scene. The 22-year-old male driver was taken to Edmonton hospital in stable but serious condition. Neither occupant of the ATV was wearing a helmet.

RCMP have charged Grovedale’s Cole Penson with one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

Penson is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie court on Monday.
