A man is dead after a single vehicle crash in the city’s southwest which triggered a significant police presence in the area.

On Wednesday afternoon, a large area near the intersection of 62B Avenue and 183 Street had to be cordoned off by police, after a black SUV jumped the curb.

The incident happened in front of the home of Ryn Byrd – he said he was rattled by what he saw.

“I walked outside and buddy is sitting in his front seat, almost like half-dead,” Byrd said.

Byrd told CTV News he saw the man reclined in his seat, and bleeding from his neck. The witness said he was asked if he saw someone flee the scene, and he believes someone was trying to hurt the victim.

“He was bleeding bad,” Byrd said.

Police told CTV News the man was taken to hospital in critical condition, and then later died.

The vehicle slammed into a fire hydrant, EPCOR was also on the scene repairing the hydrant.

EPS officers were seen in the area knocking on doors and speaking to people in the area.
