RCMP in northern Alberta said a man in his 30s was facing a number of charges, after a young child fired a gun over the weekend.

Fox Creek RCMP said a 37-year-old man is facing a total of five charges: unsafe storage of firearms, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, without a licence/registration, and child endangerment.

RCMP said on the weekend, a vehicle had been parked in the cul-de-sac of 8A Avenue in Fox Creek.

It’s believed the parents left three children, aged between 1 and 6-years-old, inside the vehicle to go into a home.

While the parents were inside the home, RCMP said the oldest child fired a rifle that had been sitting in the passenger seat – firing out the driver’s side.

No one was hurt, and RCMP said an arrest had been made – the names of the people involved would not be released to protect the identities of the children.
