Edmonton police said one individual shot who was shot early January 1 has succumbed to injuries he suffered in the incident.

Officers were called to a lounge located in the area of 111 Avenue and 93 Street, at about 4:30 a.m. Friday, January 1 – after receiving reports of shots fired in the area.

When police arrived on the scene, they were informed that two males had been taken to hospital with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. One suffered serious injuries, the other suffered non-life threatening injuries.

On Thursday, police said one of those men, identified as Abdikadir Mohamed, 25, succumbed to his injuries Thursday morning.

The other injured individual has since been released from hospital.

With Mohamed’s death, the shooting has become the city’s first homicide of 2016.
