Police in Camrose said a man in his 30s was in custody, following a standoff with officers in the parking lot of a convenience store.

Camrose Police said Wednesday that officers were notified by RCMP that a 32-year-old male wanted for uttering threats, was believed to be in Camrose.

Just before 4 p.m., Camrose police located the man’s van in the parking lot of a convenience store at 51 Street and 48 Avenue.

Officers contained the vehicle, and ordered the individual to come out.

The male wouldn’t comply, and officers saw a handgun in his possession – police secured the area, and established communication with the individual.

At about 6 p.m., police said he tossed the handgun out, and surrendered to police a short time later.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP said later that William Joseph Sheppard, 32, who was wanted for a number of charges including uttering death threats and violation of an emergency protection order, was arrested.

Sheppard is expected to remain in custody until he appears in court.
