A spokesperson for Meat Loaf said in a statement Friday that the singer was recovering, after collapsing on stage at the end of his show at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium Thursday night.

The statement said the 68-year-old performer collapsed due to severe dehydration.

A short time after he collapsed, video and photos starting showing up on social media, showing the singer bending over, knocking over his microphone stand and then falling to the floor.

Audience members told CTV News he was performing his classic song “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” as an encore when he fell over.

On Friday morning, a statement was posted on Meat Loaf’s Facebook page, explaining why the singer collapsed, and saying he was recovering in an Edmonton hospital.

Thousands of fans replied to the post within hours, many expressing relief at hearing the singer was on the road to recovery.

Early Friday afternoon, a spokesperson for the singer said he had been discharged from hospital earlier in the day.

Later in the afternoon, a post on the singer's Facebook page said he would not be performing as scheduled in Cold Lake Saturday night.
