The province has announced an additional $400 million in funding for infrastructure for municipalities.  Diana McQueen, Minister of Municipal Affairs, made the announcement in Red Deer on Friday morning.

The funding is a bonus on top of what was already promised in last spring’s budget. Edmonton’s share is expected to be approximately $80 million.

“We’re using the MSI this year to do 280 kilometres worth of road work,” Mayor Don Iveson said, “To start work on 3 fire stations, 2 libraries, LRT vehicle rehabilitation, and projects of that nature.”

The Mayor says the new funding will allow the city to do even more work, but final approval on projects isn’t expected to happen until after the provincial budget on March 26.
