Alberta Health Services has issued an alert for residents in the Edmonton area, after another case of measles was confirmed in the city.

Officials said the measles case announced Wednesday was connected to a previous case that was the subject of another advisory on April 19.

Any individuals, who were at the Dynalife Diagnostic Lab Services (Unit #240, Meadowlark Shopping Centre on 156 Street and 87 Avenue) or were in the Meadowlark Shopping Centre on April 21 between 11:40 a.m. and 2 p.m., may have been exposed.

Officials said people who were at that location at the time, who have not already had measles or received two doses of the vaccine, could be at risk for developing the measles and are advised to monitor their symptoms.

Symptoms of the measles include: a fever of 38.3 degrees Celsius or higher, a cough, runny nose and/or red eyes, in addition to a red blotchy rash that appears three to seven days after fever starts, beginning behind the ears and on the face, spreading down to the body and then to the arms and legs.

Anyone who notices those symptoms developing is advised to stay home, and call Health Link Alberta (1-866-408-5465) before going to visit a health care facility or doctor.

AHS said in Alberta, the measles vaccine is offered, free of charge – and children typically receive their first dose of the vaccine at 12 months, with their second dose between the ages of four and six.

Wednesday's advisory is the fourth confirmed case of the measles in the Edmonton-area.
