Alberta Health Services announced Friday that current President and CEO Vickie Kaminski had tendered her resignation.

Kaminski joined the organization in May, 2014.

“I am quite proud to lead a tremendous team of health care providers and the people who support them to provide quality and safe health care to their fellow Albertans every day.”

Kaminski’s statement went on to say she’s excited a new AHS board has been appointed – but called her decision to step down a “personal” one.

AHS Board Chair Linda Hughes said she accepted Kaminski’s resignation.

“I am sorry to see Vickie leave AHS and I appreciate this must have been a difficult decision for her,” Hughes said in a press release. “Vickie is well respected across the country as a health care leader and I want to acknowledge her commitment to the success of AHS and for her service to Albertans. I look forward to working with her to ensure there is a smooth transition to a new President and CEO.”

The new AHS board came into effect Friday, and will immediately start the process of recruiting for a new President and CEO.
