A local artist is turning to the community for help in hopes of making learning about Edmonton more colourful.

Illustrator, Jason Blower, plans to create a 150-page educational activity book called ‘Hello YEG’. The teaching tool aims to not only entertain young children, but also inspire them.

Blower, who also holds a teaching degree, said he's hoping to fill a gap in resources.

“One of the hardest things when it comes to teachers is having the resources that are locally focused,” Blower pointed out. “The more you know about a place, the more you love it…the more you love it, the more you’ll participate in it and eventually make it better.”

With all other projects on hold, Blower plans to dedicate two months putting pen to paper.

“Printing a book is always a daunting task to do,” he said.

As a result, Blower has initiated a kickstarter campaign where, over the next month, he’ll be asking people to pledge towards the creation of the book – with the goal of raising $7,000.

According to the artist, some sponsors have already signed up to bring the book to students, especially within the inner city. However, over the long-term he wants to see Edmontonians of all ages flip through the pages of 'Hello YEG'.
