An Edmonton man is behind bars after a double homicide at a work camp near Fox Creek, Alberta.

Daniel Goodridge, 28, has been charged with first degree murder, second degree murder, interfering with human remains and three counts of assault with a weapon in relation to the incident on June 30.

Police got a call at around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday morning that a man at the Berlan Open Camp, southwest of Fox Creek, was attacking people with a knife.

Two people were dead when RCMP arrived at the camp, which serves as accommodation for people working at remote oil, gas and logging sites.

An altercation then ensued between RCMP and the suspect, resulting in the police shooting and injuring the man.

Tyler McCracken, Executive VP of DJ Catering, a sister company of Canada North Group Inc. who operate the camp, told CTV News that all staff were interviewed by police and that the company has been offering counselling services.

"As expected everyone is very surprised and our heart goes out to the victims," said McCracken.

He would not confirm whether the victims were employees at the camp or clients.

RCMP have not released the names of the two victims but said one was a 37-year-old man from LaCrete and the other, a 50-year-old woman from Red Deer.

Goodridge is scheduled to appear in Fox Creek Provincial Court on July 27 at 10:00 a.m.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating since the police used force and injured the suspect.
