Some family pets did not survive an early morning fire in west Edmonton.

Flames broke out around 5:00 a.m. at a fourplex condominium near 66 Avenue and 180 Street. The fire has since been declared out.

No people were hurt, but some animals succumbed to smoke inhalation.

Officials later told CTV News a candle left unattended in the basement of the home was the cause of the fire.

Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $200,000.
