Edmonton police said Thursday a number of suspects had been charged in connection to an incident in the city’s downtown, in addition to a number of personal robberies, all in early February.

Police said Nicollas McLeod, 20, and Benjamin Crawford, 21, had been charged in connection to an aggravated assault in a food court bathroom in the area of 100 Street and Jasper Avenue on Monday, February 9 at 2 p.m.

At the time, it was reported that a male had been assaulted by two armed suspects in the bathroom.

The 45-year-old male suffered stab wounds in the incident; he was treated at the scene and taken to hospital by paramedics.

It’s believed the injured man and the suspects were known to each other.

Investigators later determined McLeod and six other suspects were also connected to three robberies dating back to Sunday, February 8 and Monday, February 9, at a downtown bank.

On the Sunday, two personal robberies were reported to police – its alleged individuals were approached by an armed male as they attempted to withdraw money from an ATM at a bank located near 101 Street and Jasper Avenue. A similar incident was reported the next day.

Now, McLeod is facing four counts each of robbery, breach of recognizance and breach of probation, and one count each of aggravated assault, possession of weapon dangerous to the public and possession of a concealed weapon.

Crawford is facing charges of robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, possession of a concealed weapon, and failure to comply with a probation order.

The six other suspects, including two young offenders, are facing charges in connection to the robberies – it’s believed a number of those individuals were in the food court at the time of the stabbing.
