Edmonton police said Friday that a man in his 20s had been charged in connection to the theft of a police vehicle early Thursday morning.

EPS said Ian Trevor Ball, 27, had been charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, assaulting a peace officer, theft of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving and resisting a peace officer.

Ball was arrested Thursday, after officer were called to the area of 132 Avenue and 113 A Street, after a woman said she had been approached and threatened by a man on foot.

Members of the EPS Canine Unit found the suspect in the area, but he managed to avoid officers and fled the area in a police service vehicle, he fled westbound on 132 Avenue, eventually ending up heading eastbound on 137 Avenue.

The suspect tried to make a left turn onto 113 A Street, but hit a tree at the corner of the intersection.

He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
