Edmonton police are issuing a warning to the public, ahead of the release of a convicted sexual offender this weekend.

EPS said Robert Edward Ventress, 44, will be released from the Calgary Correctional Centre on Saturday, after serving an 18 month sentence for breaching a recognizance order – police said he has a criminal record for sexual offences against children, and a failure to obey court orders.

Ventress is considered to be a sexual offender who police said poses a risk of significant harm to the community, particularly to children under the age of 12 – who police said he gains access to through relationships with adults.

Ventress is described as:

  • 183 cm (6’) tall
  • About 77 kg (170 lbs)
  • Green eyes
  • Black hair

Police said Ventress will live in the Edmonton area, and will be monitored by the Behavioural Assessment Unit.

The information is being released in the belief it is in the public interest to inform members of the community, and is not intended to encourage people to engage in any form of vigilante action.
