Officials with the Edmonton Police Service said an early morning crash on Anthony Henday Drive had resulted in the city’s third traffic fatality of the year.

According to EPS, officers were called to a single-vehicle crash just after 2 a.m. Monday, February 8.  Police said it was reported that a 58-year-old man was driving a car northbound on Anthony Henday Drive, when it hit a bridge support on the 87 Avenue overpass.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, the EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit is investigating.

The affected stretch of the Henday was closed for several hours Monday, as crews cleared up the crash.
