Edmonton police said an investigation was underway into an overnight collision that left one person dead.

Police said officers were called to a single vehicle collision on Calgary Trail southbound at Ellerslie Road just before 10 p.m. Monday.

EPS said the vehicle, a pickup truck, was headed southbound when it hit a light pole.

Investigators found the 1988 GMC pickup truck involved in the crash had been reported stolen; it’s believed speed may have been a factor.

The driver and lone occupant, identified only as a 30-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the city’s 12th traffic fatality of the year.
