Officials are investigating after a CN train derailed northwest of Edmonton.

A spokesperson from CN explained that 15 cars derailed in Hondo, Alberta, which is about 196 kilometres northwest of the city.

They added that the derailment was not close to any homes and no injuries have been reported.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. Sunday morning.

A team of investigators has been sent out from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

The team is expected to arrive at the scene Sunday afternoon.
