Officials with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) said a man from Grande Prairie had been charged, after allegations surfaced that he tried to import Oxycodone pills from overseas.

ALERT and investigators with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) worked together to arrest Trenton William Zeyha, 39 – he’s facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and importation.

Investigators said CBSA investigators intercepted a parcel destined for Grande Prairie on July 23, the package was declared as ‘cotton cross stitch’, officers said, and it had five cross-stitch patterns inside.

Officers found the patterns were totally sealed, and found that inside each packet, were 55 pills – in total, 275 Oxycodone pills were found. The parcel was seized and ALERT was notified.

ALERT and Grande Prairie RCMP arrested Zeyha on July 28 at a home in Grande Prairie.

Officials with ALERT said Oxycodone is a prescription medication, with properties similar to heroin and morphine – and it’s also typically one of the most abused prescription medications in Canada. ALERT seized nearly 5,000 Oxycodone pills in Alberta in 2013, after seizing less than 400 the previous year.
