Edmonton police said that the business licence for a south side neighbourhood pub had been revoked in the wake of a report from the city’s Public Safety Compliance Team detailing noise, weapons and violence complaints, and an undercover drug operation by police.

The licence for Strathearn Pub was revoked by the City’s Chief Licensing Officer on August 24, police said.

“This particular establishment has a lengthy history with the Edmonton Police Service, the [Public Safety Compliance Team] and that community,” Sgt. Jacob Montgomery, with the PSCT, said in a press release. “The vast majority of night spots in our city comply with industry regulations and the criminal code.

“It’s the few that compromise the safety of the surrounding community and general public that we’re addressing.”

However, police said the owner of the pub has appealed, meaning the business can remain open until a final decision is made.

Back in March, 2014, police said a three month drug trafficking investigation had ended with the arrest of the owner and a staff member from the Strathearn Pub. In those cases, Bassam Monsef, 61, and Antoine Khalil Mounsef, 54, faced a number of drug trafficking-related charges.
