Police south of Edmonton said Wednesday that a man in his 40s had been charged after an RCMP officer clocked a vehicle driving at more than twice the speed limit on a highway.
Leduc RCMP said at about 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, an officer with the Leduc Integrated Traffic Unit was travelling on Highway 19 near the Castrol Raceway (located west of the QEII Highway) when he saw a black BMW M3 driving at a high speed.
Using the radar in his patrol vehicle, the officer determined the vehicle was allegedly travelling at nearly 250 kilometres per hour – in a 100 kilometre per hour zone.
The officer stopped the driver – now, police said the 44-year-old Spruce Grove man who was behind the wheel has been charged with Dangerous Driving.
The driver is expected to appear in a Leduc courtroom June 18.
