A 77-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving causing death after a pedestrian was hit in southeast Edmonton.

Police said they were called out to the fatal collision around 9:15 p.m. Friday at 71 Street and 86 Avenue.

Officers found a 65-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries lying in a crosswalk.

Paramedics treated the woman and transported her to hospital but she was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

Witnesses told police that a 2005 Ford Explorer was heading northbound on 71 Street when it turned onto 86 Avenue and hit the woman, who was in a marked crosswalk.

Anton Magas has been charged with impaired driving causing death and driving over .80 causing death.
