Edmonton police said a man in his 80s who was struck by a vehicle last week has died in hospital, and police are still investigating.

EPS said on Thursday, August 20, at about 11:55 p.m., officers were called to 101 Street near 110A Avenue.

Reports indicated a Chevrolet Suburban headed northbound on the street struck a male pedestrian as he tried to cross eastbound.

The 84-year-old man was treated on the scene and taken to hospital with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

The male driver of the vehicle wasn’t hurt.

On Monday, August 24, police said the pedestrian died in hospital.

EPS said speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash; the EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit is still investigating.

Charges have not been laid. This is Edmonton’s 25th traffic fatality of the year.
