More than 100 Alberta school projects delayed: Government

The Auditor General has been asked to investigate the major construction delays of Alberta’s new schools.

The Minister of Education announced on Tuesday that of the 232 schools that were expected to be built or upgraded, 101 are now delayed.

Minister David Eggen is placing the blame for the delays on the former PC Government.

“We’re very annoyed with how we’ve not been given the full information we require to do this until recently," said Eggen Tuesday morning in Calgary.

“We need to be realistic and I and our contractors and school boards need the full scope of where these projects are, to give an honest completion date," said Eggen. "The ones put before were not realistic.”

The provincial government has asked the Auditor General to provide advice and report the findings by the end of the year.

Of the 101 school projects that are delayed, 21 are located in Edmonton.
