Edmonton police are investigating after a young woman was reportedly sexually assaulted Tuesday evening on the city’s north side.

Police said officers were called to a reported sexual assault on Tuesday, at about 8:15 p.m.

It was reported that a woman was walking in the area of 101 Street and 128 Avenue when a male approached her, and produced a weapon.

The man forced her into a nearby alley where she was assaulted – the suspect fled before officers arrived.

“To approach somebody in public on the street and drag them into an alley and assault them in this way is deeply concerning,” EPS Staff Sgt. Shawna Grimes with the EPS Sexual Assault Section said.

The suspect is described as:

  • Aboriginal male
  • Average height
  • Weighing about 72.5 kg (160 lbs)
  • Medium build
  • Believed to be in his mid-20s
  • Dressed in dark clothing

Police are still investigating, and said more descriptors may follow as the investigation continues.

The victim was taken to hospital, but has since been released.
