Edmonton police said Tuesday that one of their own was facing charges related to an incident dating back to June, 2014.

Police said Const. Nathan Downing was facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm stemming from an incident that took place when he was on-duty, during an arrest.

Downing has been removed from frontline patrol duties, police said.

The charge followed an investigation by the EPS Professional Standards Branch, which was also then reviewed by Alberta Justice.
