Edmonton police turned to local retailers and the public Monday, in an effort to gather information on a man facing fraud-related charges.

Police said the man was arrested after officers were called to an alleged fraud incident in west Edmonton - Friday, March 20. It was reported that a man had tried to use a non-functioning credit card to make a purchase, first with the chip and then the magnetic strip.

EPS carried out an investigation that led to the suspect’s arrest.

Investigators with the Edmonton Police Service Cooperative Policing and Merchant Crime Alert Program connected the man to a previous suspicious incident – where police said the man reportedly used a counterfeit Quebec driver’s licence in the name of Claude Bergeron, along with a number of non-functioning credit cards, to make fraudulent purchases in the Edmonton area in March.

Police are asking retailers who recognized the individual, or members of the public with information about the man are asked to contact investigators.

The accused has been identified as Francis Roberge, 30, and he’s facing charges of fraud under $5,000, attempted fraud under $5,000, possession of credit card data, possession of identity documents and obstructing a peace officer.
