Police south of Edmonton said an investigation was underway after human remains were discovered in a rural area over the weekend.

Leduc RCMP said the remains were found southeast of Leduc in a wooded area near farm land – in an area near to where the remains of Amber Tuccaro were found. Tuccaro was reported missing in 2010.

A person walking in the area found them and contacted police on Sunday, April 19.

Investigators said the remains were being examined by the Medical Examiner in Edmonton – they were found to be human.

Officials are working to determine the circumstances that led to the remains ending up where they were found, and their origin. It’s believed the remains may have been in the area for some time.

RCMP said Project Kare is investigating.

Officially, RCMP said more information on this case will be made available on Monday.
