One person has died following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 28 north of Edmonton.

RCMP said the male driver of a truck died following the collision near Carbondale Road in Sturgeon County around noon on Sunday.

Police said a southbound Chevrolet Malibu crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound Dodge pickup truck.

“The car managed to hold the road, whereas the truck hit the ditch, over-corrected, then went end over end several times pinning the driver in the truck,” deputy fire chief in Sturgeon County Steve Douglas explained.

The male driver of the Dodge was declared deceased at the scene.

The male driver of the Malibu was assessed by paramedics at the scene and then released.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
