Police in northern Alberta said lanes in both directions on Highway 63 had been shut down Monday, as officers dealt with a collision on the highway.

Wood Buffalo RCMP said officers were on the scene of a collision on Highway 63, at kilometre marker 190.

Officers were called to the area at about 2 p.m.

Investigators said early results showed a southbound pickup truck and northbound gravel truck had collided head-on. No further details were released.

Highway 63 was closed in both directions to allow the investigation to continue.

UPDATE (22/07/14): Police said the highway reopened at about 10 p.m.
