Police west of Edmonton are trying to determine where a certain human skull came from – after it was uncovered in a garage last year.

Hinton RCMP said the skull was turned over to police in February 2013 by the Groeneveldt family, who found it while cleaning out their garage.

Investigators said it was tucked away under some items that had been in the garage since the homeowner – identified as Leo Groeneveldt, died several years before.

The man’s family believes Groeneveldt came into possession of the skull at a party held in Hinton in the late 1960s or early 1970s.

RCMP are asking anyone who recalls attending a party in Hinton at about that time, where a human skull was shown or passed around, they’re asked to call Hinton RCMP at 780-865-2455, or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
