Police west of Edmonton are trying to track down a woman suspected of stealing another woman’s identity, and tens of thousands of dollars.

Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP said the suspect is believed to be in the area – in mid-July, RCMP became aware of a woman who had gone to TD and Scotiabank locations in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain, with forged identification in the name of a woman in Ontario.

RCMP said the suspect had obtained the victim’s Social Insurance Number, and used it to get photo identification – and access the victim’s bank accounts and Line of Credit. It’s believed the suspect had also made fraudulent purchases.

So far, RCMP said about $70,000 had been stolen.

RCMP released two photos taken from surveillance footage, in the hopes of identifying the suspect.
