The Canadian Olympic Committee and Athletics Canada announced the 65 athletes that will represent Canada in track and field at the 2016 Rio summer games Monday in Edmonton.

The events will take place from August 5 to 21, and Canada's largest track and field team ever sent to an Oympics will include 2015 World Champion and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Derek Drouin, 2015 World Champion Shawn Barber, and three Edmontonians in Kendra Clarke (400 m, 4x400 m relay), Carline Muir (400 m, 4x400 m relay) and Angela Whyte (100 m hurdles).

The athletes earned their spots to Rio in Edmonton at the Canadian Championships and Selection Trials July 7-10 at Foote Field in Edmonton.

“This is the strongest and most well-rounded team I have ever been a part of,” Rio 2016 athlete Brianne Theisen-Eaton said. “The team counts multiple world medalists and a talented roster who will challenge for the podium on track and field. My teammates and I are ready to compete for Canada in Rio.”
