Edmonton police said Monday that one man was facing a number of charges in connection to two thefts of ATM units in recent weeks.

Police said John Joshua Ford, 43, was arrested Wednesday, March 22, in Edmonton’s downtown core – he’s now charged in connection to two recent thefts of ATMs: one was stolen from a hotel on Calgary Trail and 51 Avenue on March 11, the other from a pharmacy in Pleasantview on March 21.

Ford is facing the following charges: shop break and commit theft under $5,000, shop break with intent, mischief under $5,000, two counts of possession of break-in instruments, disguised while in the commission of an offence, theft under $5,000.

Investigators said damages to buildings and the machines targeted in the recent ATM thefts are believed to be more than $100,000.

The accused is also believed to have a connection to two other incidents in communities outside of Edmonton and more charges are pending.

The series of ATM thefts is still under investigation, it’s believed a number of the incidents are not linked, and a number of other suspects may be involved.
