One of two teens accused of shooting and killing cattle west of Edmonton was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, but he didn’t show up – and an arrest warrant could be issued if he fails to appear again.

Julian Bliss, 18, and a 15-year-old boy are facing a total of 28 charges, in connection to an overnight shooting last summer that left a number of cattle dead.

Bliss was to appear in a Stony Plain courtroom Wednesday, but he failed to appear, with no explanation.

The development was disappointing for the family who owned cattle killed in the incident.

“It’s just kind of good for us, it shows them that he’s not serious about it, and he doesn’t think he did wrong,” Lainie Thordarson said. “Hopefully he gets punished for this.”

Thordarson’s daughter Kassidy had hand-raised two of the animals for a 4-H project.

“It’s kind of disappointing that he didn’t show, but it’s also a good thing because I guess it shows he’s not responsible,” Kassidy Thordarson said.

A new court date was set for early April – if Bliss does not attend again, an arrest warrant could be issued.

The younger boy appeared in a Stony Plain youth court on March 15.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
