Edmonton’s direct flight to Newark, New Jersey (billed as a direct flight to New York) will soon be taking off, for good. According to an EIA spokesperson, United Airlines is cancelling the flight.

The flight to Newark has been in operation for a little over a year, with the first flight leaving on May 13, 2013.

A United Airlines spokesperson told CTV News the flights were not meeting the company's expectations.

Despite this cancellation, international flights out of Edmonton are actually up 15% this August from last August.

This weekend will be the last weekend to book a direct flight to Newark from Edmonton, and the last flight will leave the EIA on October 25th

United said the company would be in touch with customers booked to travel between Newark and Edmonton, and offer to re-accomodate them on other flights, or to offer them refunds.
