A woman is dead after a motorcycle crash on the Groat Road Bridge Sunday afternoon.

Edmonton police responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on the Groat Road Bridge at approximately 2 p.m.

A 53-year-old woman driving a Honda Shadow motorcycle northbound on Groat Road hit a concrete barrier on the bridge, police said.

EMS and EPS responded, but she succumbed to her injuries on scene.

Police are investigating, but speed and alcohol are not believed to have caused the fatal collision.

EPS also said Groat Road near the bridge will be close for "several hours" while they investigate.

This is Edmonton’s 18th traffic fatality of the year, EPS said.
