RCMP in central Alberta said that a woman in her 60s, who was reported missing in mid-March, had been found dead.

RCMP said Roze Burke, 68, was reported missing from Red Deer County on March 13, 2015.

Since then, RCMP said extensive search operations had been carried out, utilizing a number of resources including RCMP Police Dog Services, air services and help from Red Deer County Civilian Search and Rescue – while the family organized their own searches in Red Deer.

Finally, Burke’s vehicle was found by air services members, who were working on a separate operation, in a remote area about 35 kilometres south of Evansburg on March 27.

RCMP said it’s believed Burke’s vehicle became stuck, and she left it to find help – but the area where her car got stuck is not often frequented by travellers.

Burke’s vehicle and her dog were recovered, her dog was returned to her family.

Investigators are waiting for autopsy results.
