Edmonton’s transit system will see some changes on Sunday, including adding several more Smart Bus routes.

According to the City of Edmonton routes 1, 23, 30, 75 and 89 will now be using Smart Bus technology, which offers riders real-time bus information.

Smart Buses also include vehicle health monitoring and integration with onboard security cameras to improve the overall safety of the system.

In 2012, when the program was first announced, the City estimated their initial investment in the technology would be $3.4 million. They also indicated the cost for installing the technology in the full fleet would be about $32 million.

Passengers are able to track the buses in real-time at www.takeETS.com/ETSLive.

ETS also provides e-mail replies to passengers that provides departure times for specific bus stops.

Officials also said some changes to current routes were being made to help improve connections and service reliability.
