The “Constable Chelsey Robinson Park” in the Parkland County was officially opened Saturday, in memory of the fallen officer who died in the line of duty in 2010.

“It's just really humbling to think that that many people came out to share this beautiful park and beautiful day honouring Chelsey,” Robinson’s mother, Shelley West said.

Robinson was killed responding to an impaired driving call – only seven months after she began her policing career at the Stony Plain detachment.

“She was crossing Highway 16 when she was struck by another vehicle, and then unfortunately lost her life as a result of the collision,” Alberta RCMP Assistant Commander Marlin Degrand said.

It has been six years since the Constable’s death, but this park ensures that her community remembers Robinson for years to come, in a manner she would appreciate.

“She loved nature, she loved parks, she loved animals,” West said. “I know she's up there smiling down and saying like, ‘Wow, I can't believe they named this in memory of me, but I love it’.”
