A spokesperson with Occupational Health and Safety has confirmed officials are investigating a fatal incident at a worksite in northern Alberta over the weekend.

According to OHS, an electrician was working on electrical panels when he collapsed at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

The 27-year-old man was taken to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

OHS said while it may appear that the man was electrocuted, the cause of death had not yet been confirmed, and officials are waiting to hear from the Medical Examiner.

Officials with OHS were on the scene shortly after the incident, and officials remained at the worksite into Monday.

In a statement released Sunday, Suncor said the company was working with authorities, and will investigate the incident.

“This is devastating news and a tragic loss for family, friends and co-workers,” Suncor executive vice president Mark Little said in the press release. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to loved ones during this extremely difficult time.”

Suncor said the name of the deceased is not being released.
