Edmonton police said Wednesday that one man had been charged in connection to a vandalism spree that saw dozens of vehicles damaged over the weekend.

Police said a citizen called police, after seeing a male suspect allegedly damaging property in the area of 96 Avenue and 87 Street on Saturday, September 24.

The witness reported he recognized the suspect from media reports.

Officers responded to the area just after noon, and arrested the male suspect, and he was linked to the vandalism spree Saturday, September 17 in the Holyrood neighbourhood. In that early morning incident, more than 25 vehicles were damaged.

A surveillance camera at one of the homes recorded a suspect ‘keying’ a car, other vehicles saw the same damage, along with slashed tires and broken mirrors.

“The surveillance footage provided to police was imperative to this investigation,” EPS spokesperson Noreen Remtulla said.

“From that video, a citizen recognized the suspect, saw the suspect in the neighbourhood and called police right away.”

After the suspect was arrested, a search warrant was carried out and evidence seized in it led to more than 20 charges.

Now, Jason William Ross, 31, is facing nineteen charges of mischief under $5,000, two counts of mischief over $5,000 and theft under $5,000.

It’s estimated the damages in the September 17 vandalism spree added up to more than $100,000.
