RCMP in northern Alberta said one man was in hospital after a motorist on a highway late Thursday night came across another vehicle that appeared to have ended up down an embankment.

RCMP said the driver was travelling on Highway 663 near Caslan at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday when they noticed the pickup truck down the embankment.

The individual contacted police, who went to the scene to investigate. When officers arrived, they found the pickup truck, which appeared to have driven off the highway and down the embankment, becoming lodged in trees about 50 feet from the highway.

The vehicle was barely visible from the roadway.

Inside, the male driver of the truck was found to be unresponsive – paramedics and members from the Caslan Fire Department were called to help. Police said once the 54-year-old man was freed from the vehicle, he regained consciousness and was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

Police are investigating.
