RCMP said a woman in her 60s was killed, after she was hit by a semi-truck Tuesday morning.

Grande Prairie RCMP said emergency crews were called to Highway 43 at Range Road 10 at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a semi-truck.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers remained at the scene for several hours as they investigated what happened, the highway was reopened early Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators said reports indicated the woman may have been trying to cross the highway when she was hit.

RCMP said the woman had been identified as Noreen Perkins, 65, of Debolt, Alberta.

The exact cause of the incident isn’t clear, RCMP said, but drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors.
